Update 1.11.18

Daisy continues to work through the issues caused by heavy metal poisoning, and her body is working hard to expel all the toxins that have plagued her for years.  She sees our vet team regularly and they have added cold laser sessions to her treatment protocol.  The sessions really appear to be helping with a variety of problems so we're very excited about that positive news!  Through it all, she's as sweet and loving as a BT can be.  She's a really special little Boston and we are honored to care for her.

**Daisy is still on medical hold and is not availble for adoption at this time.  Given her extensive, complicated medical history, Daisy will only be available to local adoption candidates (North Texas area) when she is cleared by our veterinary team.**

Update 8.31.17

Daisy underwent some pretty extensive testing last month.  A test was performed which measures the levels of toxic and essential elements present in her hair sample, and the results were astounding.  It appears our sweet girl is suffering from heavy metal toxicity.  Among the critical offenders: lead, mercury, thallium, and nickel!

Hair/fur is an excretory tissue for toxic elements.  Basically, the amount of an element that is irreversibly incorporated into growing hair is proportional to the level of the element present in other bodily tissues.  Potential causes of exposure to these toxins include contaminated drinking water, second-hand smoke, pesticides, industrial pollution, and fertilizers.

Unfortunately, humans and dogs alike are unable to rid their bodies of heavy metals without help so Daisy will undergo a pretty hefty detoxification protocol to help her body heal.  This is a relatively uncommon and expensive protocol for dogs, but the test results have shown us that it is necessary to set Daisy on the path to wellness.  We know she's worth it, and we hope you feel the same way.  We need your support to give Daisy the treatments she needs to rid her little body of these toxic elements.

Update 5.4.17

Daisy’s skin condition continues to confound the experts.  She has been under the care of multiple veterinarians and two dermatology specialists over the past three years, and all they have been able to tell us is that she suffers from “seasonal allergies”.  Translation – she’s allergic to different grasses, pollens, dust mites, and that applies to all seasons. The most success we’ve had to date is a result of homeopathic care, a raw diet, and several natural remedies.

To answer some of the most-often asked questions:

*Yes, she has undergone extensive allergy testing.  She is sensitive to all sorts of grasses, pollens, dust mites, and a host of additional offenders.

*Yes, she has been on Apoquel (and other immunosuppressive drugs) – that did not help.

*Yes, she is on a limited ingredient, grain-free diet.  All of ABTRR’s dogs are fed a species-appropriate diet which is 100% grain-free.

*Yes, she has been through multiple feeding trials with novel proteins – to no avail.  Her allergy testing showed no sensitivities to beef or chicken – the two proteins we feed regularly.

Daisy’s foster mom is working diligently with our veterinary team to sort out her issues and heal her little body.  We will update her bio as new discoveries are made and as she gets closer to being ready for adoption.  Thanks!

Update 1.22.17

Daisy is back with us. She was adopted out to her new family with all her medical history. Her new family was very aware of her severe skin issues. They still wanted her knowing that she had this medical need. They promised to provide her with her prescribed medications to manage her allergies. Sadly they did not and returned her to us. She's a hot mess of allergies and inflamed skin. We are starting back at square one with her. Our focus is on healing her from the inside out! This starts with biologically appropriate and nutrient dense food. She is eating BARF (www.barfworld.com to learn more). Healing and rehabbing dogs starts with getting them appropriate nutrition.

All of this care and nutrition is not cheap! We are only able to provide this level care with your support. If you would like to donate to Daisy's care please send your PayPal donation to donation@americanbostonterrierrescue.org or you can mail your donation to ABTRR PO Box 1286, Little Elm, TX 75068. We are a 501c3 and your donation is tax deductible.

How do you do? My name is Daisy! I am a 4 yr old beautiful Southern Belle who will soon be in search of my forever home.  I am currently being fostered in the DFW (Texas) area.

Let me tell you a bit about myself: I am crate trained, potty trained, no anxiety, non-destructive, expert snuggler and I know how to "sit" and "come" on command.  I love all the dogs here in my foster home and I am also good with dog-respectful children.  My foster home describes me as a lovely, mannerly girl who is a true joy to have in their home.
